Bienvenue à Paris
Voici plus de deux ans qu'adhérents du MDB et abonnés à Roue Libre entendent parler de Velo-city. Peut-être certains en sont-ils lassés.
Au printemps 2001, peu après son élection, nous avons suggéré à la nouvelle municipalité de présenter sa candidature pour organiser Velo-city. Cette candidature a rapidement rassemblé tous les acteurs intéressés au développement du vélo urbain en France, et ces acteurs se sont à nouveau mobilisés, dès cette candidature retenue, pour l'organisation pratique et scientifique de cette manifestation.
Chacun a travaillé d'arrache-pied, le Conseil scientifique pour présenter un programme alléchant, les services de la Ville et le prestataire extérieur pour que tout se déroule bien, les partenaires du Comité de pilotage pour organiser l'environnement du congrès.
Pour présenter aux congressistes l'association à l'origine de ce congrès, nous leur offrons un exemplaire de notre revue bimestrielle, sous sa forme habituelle, mais avec des traductions ou des résumés en anglais des articles qu'elle contient.
Nous souhaitons la bienvenue à Paris aux participants à Velo-city, bien sûr aux militants des associations de cyclistes françaises et étrangères, mais aussi à tous les autres congressistes. Que ces quelques jours à Paris les aident à acquérir et conforter les qualités de volonté, de compétence et d'écoute que le développement du vélo comme mode de déplacement nécessite des élus, des techniciens et des militants associatifs , et qu'ils n'oublient pas de profiter des beautés de notre ville.

Welcome to Paris !
For more than two years now, members of MDB and readers of its magazine, Roue libre have been hearing of Velo-city 2003. Perhaps some are even tired of it.
In the spring of 2001, soon after the municipal election, we suggested to the new Mayor and his team that they put in a bid for the organization of Velo-city. This bid quickly gained the support of all the people having an interest in the development of urban cycling in France, and when the bid was successful, these same people rallied again to help with the practical and scientific organization of the event.
Everyone worked hard, the Science committee to prepare an interesting and varied programme, the services of the City and the external partner to see that all runs smoothly, the members of the Steering committee to organize the environment of the Conference.
In order to acquaint the conference participants with the association which originated the idea of the Paris setting, we have decided to offer each one a copy of our bimonthly magazine, in its usual format, but with English translations or resumes of the articles it contains.
We wish to welcome all Velo-city participants to Paris, activists from French and foreign cycling pressure groups of course, but also all the others. May these few days in Paris help them to acquire or consolidate the qualities of will, competence and listening that the development of the bicycle as a means of transport requires from elected officials, technicians and activists alike.
And of course, they must not forget to take advantage of all that this city has to offer.
